Two days after being designated for assignment, catcher Ali Sánchez learned Tuesday that he’ll remain with the Red Sox organization.

Sánchez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Worcester, according to a club announcement, but with the WooSox’ season over, he’s likely heading to Fort Myers to join Boston’s “stay-ready group” of depth options that is working out at JetBlue Park. Sánchez will remain with the organization for now as a depth option behind top catchers Carlos Narváez and Connor Wong.

The 28-year-old Sánchez has had a strange season that has included two different stints with Boston. He played eight games for Toronto before being designated for assignment in August, then picked up by the Red Sox as a third catching option. He was with the big league club from Augus
