CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A new bill introduced Monday in the state legislature looks to bring back the death penalty and potentially change execution methods in the state.

Iryna’s Law , named after the young woman stabbed on the light rail last month, addresses several violent crime-related issues. One section is related to executions.

Some of the people on death row have been there for decades, with many dating back to the early 90s.

As of Sept. 23, there were 122 people on death row in North Carolina.

Advocates against the death penalty worry that this is a quick reaction to a tragic incident.
