Tens of thousands of people are being encouraged to sign up as NHS volunteers under a dedicated new website, which can match individuals to roles in hospitals, care homes and local communities across the health service in England.

There are currently 77,000 NHS volunteers who help with things like chatting to patients while they wait for surgery, collecting medication from pharmacies and playing board games with care home residents.
