MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a circulating phone scam claiming to be sheriff’s office personnel.

The scam call references the victim missing jury duty and tries to convince the victim that they have a warrant for their arrest, Cpl. Carli Carr said.

The caller states that the victim must pay a fine to avoid being arrested for allegedly missing jury duty.

The scammers are using the official Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office phone number and names of its staff and supervisors to appear official.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office officials say they would never call residents to demand payment over the phone, request money, gift cards or wire transfers to resolve a warrant, or allow anyone to “pay off” a warrant.
