At a Sept. 15 meeting, Missouri City City Council voted 4-2 to approve a five-year contract with GFL Environmental Inc. to provide trash and recycling collection services citywide.

Council members Sonya Brown-Marshall and Lynn Clouser dissented, while council member Monica Riley abstained.

The new contract reduces the number of solid waste contracts after the city annexed a portion of Sienna, which already had a contractor for its services, Assistant City Manager Jason Mangum said.
