(WSPA) - Helene uprooted so many families, and some of them, not just in Asheville, but in the Upstate, are still unable to live in their homes one year later. They blame their insurance providers.

7NEWS looked into how homeowners are fighting back against insurance estimates well below what contractors said is the true cost of fixing the damage.

No year has been longer and more stressful for Susan Beaupre and her husband Jim than the one that began the day Helene arrived.

"So, there are holes all over the house. And there are 16 broken roof rafters across the span," Mrs. Beaupre said as she showed 7NEWS the inside of their Greenville home.

"You can see the fireplace the chimney is actually cracked," Mr. Beaupre added.
