New information from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) confirms that contaminated water killing cattle and wildlife in Five Mile Creek may have originated from a saltwater disposal well.
Days ago, ranchers shared heartbreaking photos of dead livestock near Eakly. According to an incident report released on Monday, the leak was traced to the Pearcy well, a saltwater disposal well operated by Nject Disposal LLC.
Ranchers Mike Loula and Tony Setzer have been closely monitoring the spill on their farms. Loula says the contaminated water has poisoned the creek bottoms, though the full extent of the damage remains unknown. The spill has killed 28 of Loula’s cows and dozens of fish in the creek.
“It’s devastating, not just financially, but to see the cattle suffer,” Loula said.
