Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles gave racing fans a history lesson with something of an archaeological exercise.

As IMS officials did repairs Tuesday after, as Boles posted on social media, "the Bricks are talking to us through bumps" at the end of Turn 2.

Workers found pieces of the Speedway's full history by digging a little more than a foot into the surface, most notably:

Some of the original 3.2 million paving bricks laid in 1909.

Part of the track's original stone and tar surface, also laid in 1909.
