CHELSEA, Mass. —

An East Boston man is facing charges for allegedly getting into a violent altercation with a store clerk during an armed robbery Monday morning.

Twenty-seven-year-old Edwin Geovanny Videz-Trinidad was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery, and malicious destruction of property over $1,200.

Chelsea Police say Videz-Trinidad walked into the EZ Mart convenience store on Washington Avenue just after 9 a.m., armed with knives.

Surveillance video allegedly showed Videz-Trinidad engaging in a violent struggle with the clerk, repeatedly swinging a knife at the victim while trying to get behind the counter.

Videz-Trinidad stole money from the register, then threw objects at the clerk before fleeing the scene, according to investigators.
