CLEVELAND, Ohio — Mike Gundy’s legendary run at Oklahoma State has come to an abrupt end.
The university fired its longtime head coach following a 1–2 start to the 2025 season, capped by a stunning loss to Tulsa in Week 4.
The decision ends a 21-year tenure that saw Gundy transform the Cowboys into a perennial Big 12 contender, and later, a program struggling to keep pace in the modern college football landscape.
Gundy, 58, leaves Stillwater as the winningest coach in school history, compiling a 170–90 record. His résumé includes eight 10-win seasons, a Big 12 championship in 2011, and 18 bowl appearances, five of which were New Year’s Six games. He was named Big 12 Coach of the Year three times and earned national honors in 2011.
But the past two seasons marked a steep decline.
