The organization that represents 264 municipalities across the province says it welcomes the province’s planned return of codes of conduct for local government but also questioned how it can reduce taxes while maintaining services amid what it sees as continued infrastructure underfunding.
On Monday, the province published the mandate letter from Premier Danielle Smith to Municipal Affairs Minister Dan Williams, who described it as getting “back to basics” with the province looking to focus municipalities on their core role of providing services while also limiting property tax increases.
In an interview Tuesday, Alberta Municipalities president, Wetaskiwin Mayor Tyler Gandam, characterized the letter as a mixed bag that was short on practical details.
“It’s one thing to have thes
