One person is dead and traffic is backed up on both sides of Garden City Skyway in St. Catharines after a loose wheel from a pickup truck crashed into a vehicle on the QEW span Tuesday afternoon.

The highway was closed in the Fort Erie-bound lanes at Niagara Street in St. Catharines and in the Toronto-bound lanes at Glendale Avenue in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Ontario Provincial Police have asked motorists to avoid the area.
