Decisions made in past civil cases in Quebec, where a man was ordered to pay damages to a woman for sexually abusing her, are an insult because they don’t go far enough, said one of the lawyers representing nine plaintiffs suing Just for Laughs founder Gilbert Rozon for a total of nearly $14 million.

Lawyer Bruce Johnston made the comments before Quebec Superior Court Justice Chantal Tremblay at the Montreal courthouse on Tuesday. In a trial that began in December, Tremblay is now hearing closing arguments in the case. The nine women, including some who worked for Rozon, allege they were sexually abused by him.

The alleged abuse ranges from sexual harassment to rape.

Included among the plaintiffs is Patricia Tulasne, an actress who is seeking $1.6 million. She alleges Rozon raped her in
