PORTLAND, Mich. (WILX) - The high school football season couldn’t be off to a better start for Portland St. Patrick. The Shamrocks knocked off defending state runners-up Morrice 14-7 and improved to 4-0 with a 48-6 win over previously unbeaten Fulton on Saturday.

“We’re working on the little things, and it’s paying off for them right now,” 19th-year head coach Pat Russman said. “You can always be better. So, we’re trying not to waste our reps. But we like where we’re at."

Russman doesn’t have to try to build a culture because he helped build it as a player at St. Pat’s back in the day.

“I grew up playing here too, so the guys that I grew up with always worked really hard,” Russman said. “We have a lot more [players] now than they had then, so I always am appreciative of that. It may not
