AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) - Authorities are investigating after an Aiken business owner was found dead inside his restaurant last week.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said 78-year-old Jimmy D. Varos, known by locals as 'Jimmy The Greek', was found dead inside The Variety Restaurant on York Street NE, Friday, Sept. 19, just before 4 p.m.

Officers with the Department of Public Safety were called to the restaurant by family members for a welfare check just after 3:30 p.m.

Once there, officers found Varos deceased in a part of the building that had been converted into a living space.

Officials also reported a strong odor of propane gas inside.

Autopsy results released Monday, Sept. 22, revealed Varos died from natural causes; however, the case will remain active pending the release of toxicol
