TORONTO -- Less than an hour from first pitch Tuesday, the Blue Jays dropped a surprise on everyone with their decision to designate Alek Manoah for assignment.

The news we’d all been waiting on was Anthony Santander , but it was curious that when manager John Schneider met with the media near 4 p.m. ET, there still wasn’t a clear answer on whether the veteran slugger would be activated from the injured list. Now, it all makes sense. There was something else brewing.

Santander has, in fact, been activated from the 60-day IL. He’s back to play his first MLB games since late May, looking to write a better ending to a nightmarish first season with the Blue Jays.
