STATEWIDE -- More than a dozen pieces of legislation sponsored by Senate President Mattie Daughtry will go into effect this week.
They concern everything from Paid Family and Medical Leave to local seafood in schools.
13 bills become law on Wednesday, September 24.
One major piece of legislation is LD 894, concerning the laws governing Paid Family and Medical Leave. It strengthens protections regarding lack of payment by employers, allowing streamlined collections for delinquent payments.
President Daughtry referred to this program as "life changing," saying in part, quote, "no Mainer should have to choose between a paycheck and caring for a loved one . We're building a more compassionate, economically resilient future."
LD 1287 establishes rental assistance to prevent evictions fo
