[LINN COUNTY, Iowa] — The first-degree murder trial of Dakota Van Patten continued today in a Linn County courtroom. Van Patten is one of two men accused of killing Melody Hoffman, whose body was found near Lily Lake in Amana in February 2024.

The associate state medical examiner testified extensively today. She performed the autopsy on Hoffman and told the jury that she observed multiple stab wounds, suggesting Hoffman was stabbed in the back.

Van Patten faces the possibility of life in prison if found guilty. Testimony will resume tomorrow morning.
