BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - In just the first three months of the 25-26 school year, the state has already dolled out more than half of the funds available for the MJ Foster Program.
The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid said students could be facing frozen scholarship accounts if a funding solution is not found.
The Board of Regents requested $25 million from the state Legislature for the MJ Foster Program this year, but did not receive the increase, according to Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed.
“We did not get it. It’s currently funded at $10.5 million — it’s going gangbusters, but we expect to be out of money this fall,” Reed said.
There are 2,531 students currently receiving aid through the program, and $5,693,114 has been spent this school year. The program
