More than 1,000 dancers and drummers performed this month at the 28th annual San Manuel Pow Wow in at Cal State San Bernardino.

The annual celebration of Native American culture was held Sept. 19-21 at the university. Performers from across the western U.S. participated in what the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation reports is the largest pow wow in Southern California.

This year, the three-day event paid tribute to the reclamation of the tribe’s ancestral name. Earlier this year, the former San Manuel Band of Mission Indians announced it had formally changed its name to Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation.
