A massive solar farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) south of Tamworth has cleared another hurdle after being approved by the Federal Government.
The 134-megawatt (MW) Garoo solar farm will generate enough energy to power more than 60,000 homes and has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum, equivalent to taking approximately 110,000 passenger cars off the road annually.
The project, which is located 40 kilometres south of the city and 14 kilometres west of Wallabadah, includes the construction of 234,000 solar panels and a 360 MW / 1,440 MWh battery and will connect to the national grid via the existing 330 kilovolt overhead transmission line.
It's anticipated that up to 250 jobs will be created during the construction ph
