WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- A driver has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a pregnant mother in the north suburbs on Sunday night, police said on Tuesday.

Michelle Heidbrick, 36, was hit and killed while crossing the street near Grand Avenue and Jackson Street in Waukegan around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Heidbrick was taken to Vista Medical Center East, where she was pronounced dead. Her pregnancy was at the 22-week mark, and she leaves behind a teenage son.

A witness told police that the driver fled the scene without stopping.

Rosalinda Vaca, a 49-year-old Waukegan woman, has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
