Bhubaneswar: State govt is taking necessary steps to increase spending for the health sector from 2.4per cent of the GSDP to 3per cent in the short-term and 5per cent in the long-term, health minister Mukesh Mahaling informed the assembly on Monday.
During the last five years, the percentage of state budget allocation to the health sector increased from 5.8per cent in 2020-21 to 7.8per cent in 2024-25, the minister said.
He said Odisha spent 1.8per cent of GSDP on public health in 2020-21, 1.6per cent in 2021-22, 1.8per cent in 2022-23, 2per cent in 2023-24 and 2.4per cent in 2024-25.
In 2020-21, Odisha’s GSDP was Rs 5.4 lakh crore. This increased to Rs 9.49 lakh crore in 2024-25. Similarly, the state’s health budget increased from Rs 9,468 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 22,367 crore in 2024
