PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is in jail after he allegedly admitted to shooting and killing another man in west Phoenix on Sunday, but claims self-defense.

Around 2:30 a.m., Phoenix police were called out to the area of 51st Avenue and McDowell Road . When they arrived, officers went into a home and found 28-year-old Gabriel Soto Hernandez, who had been shot at least once. He died at the scene.

Investigators later identified 43-year-old Edward Sanchez as a potential suspect. Detectives say they took Sanchez into custody, and he allegedly admitted to being involved but claimed self-defense.

Sanchez was booked into jail and is facing multiple charges, including murder.

The investigation remains ongoing.
