QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- The prognosis is grim for a young boy shot in the head while on his way to school in Queens.

Sanjay Samuel’s father said his son has lost brain activity, and the bullet remains lodged in his head.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Samuel was just weeks into his freshman year of high school, spending his free time playing basketball, fishing, and dancing. But all of his vibrancy and joy was gone in an instant Monday.

“When I was at work my son called and told me, ‘Sanjay got shot, Sanjay got shot,’” said his father, Theophilus Samuel.

The father had been working at Cohen Children’s Hospital — the same place where his son is now on life support.
