No. 3 North Catholic (10-1-1, 8-1-0) head coach Scott Schlegel claims his team’s win on the road against No. 2 Deer Lakes (9-3-0, 7-1-0) can give them the belief that they can compete with the best in Class 2A.
Goals from Brody Kennedy and Justin Garvey gave the Trojans the 2-1 win as two of the poll’s top five teams squared off in Section 1, the win coming despite being down to 10 men for the final 30 minutes.
“For our seniors, especially, there’s been a belief that we can compete at the highest level since our staff came in three years ago,” Schlegel said. “This gives that belief some validation. It was a playoff game mentality for us and I hope it serves us well in WPIAL playoffs and beyond, if we are fortunate enough to find ourselves there.”
Schlegel said the win also had extra mea
