COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - On Tuesday, Colerain Township Trustees voted in favor of an agreement that officially allowed a dispensary to open in the township. Colerain had previously voted to prohibit any business of that kind.
In October of 2023, trustees voted for the prohibition, citing a lack of local control compared to the regulations the state could impose.
Earlier this year, they reversed that policy on the condition that any business opening a dispensary enter an agreement to pay the township directly to remain open.
“Host Communities” in Ohio are municipalities that have a dispensary. Those communities can receive money from taxes paid out related to dispensaries.
