OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - If you ever had to send an important package after the post office closes, there has been a way to get that done after hours.

But that convenient service ends this month.

When he has a package to send, Robert Maxey might leave with a gallon of milk because the customer service counter inside Hy-Vee has a deal with the United States Postal Service.

“The other day I mailed a metered letter on Sunday at 4:30. You can’t do that at the post office that isn’t open. So it’s really convenient here to do all that stuff and on top of it I do my grocery shopping here so I can hit two birds with one stone,” Maxey said.

But signs at Hy-Vee warn customers that mail service provided in stores will soon end, and that decision came from the postal service, not the grocery chain.
