Brussels: NATO has strongly condemned Russia after three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace near Vaindloo Island on September 19. The aircraft remained in Estonian airspace for approximately 12 minutes before being intercepted and escorted out by NATO's Italian F-35 jets.

The incident comes shortly after a breach of Polish airspace by more than 20 Russian drones, some of which were shot down by NATO forces. In response, NATO convened a North Atlantic Council meeting under Article 4 of its founding treaty, which allows consultations when a member state's security is perceived to be under threat.

This invocation marks only the ninth in NATO’s 76-year history, with two cases occurring this month alone.
