Thomas Spence has defeated Brandon Balentine to become the next member of the Florence City Council.

Spence, who will now serve as the District 6 representative on the body, received 54.95% (427) of the vote, while Balentine earned 45.05% (380).

Spence, a 27-year resident of the district, was a public school teacher and served as a police officer for seven years. He currently holds the rank of sergeant at the University of North Alabama Police Department.
