PROVO — Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spoke at the Marriott Center at BYU on Tuesday, marking the 30th anniversary of the presentation of “ The Family: A Proclamation to the World .”

According to Church Newsroom , the family proclamation was presented to a women’s session of General Conference in 1995 by President Gordon B. Hinckley, the Church leader at the time. The Church Newsroom reported that the proclamation had been developed over the course of the previous year, announcing where the Church stood with regards to families.

Since the presentation, the family proclamation has been quoted by leaders of the Church regularly since 1995, highlighting one of the Church’s major teachings .
