EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The teenager accused of shooting an Evansville police officer apologizes in court to anyone who was hurt during Sunday morning's officer-involved shooting.
Jailani Chew made his first court appearance on Tuesday afternoon with a courtroom filled with over 70 local law enforcement officers showing support for Officer Sam Taylor.
Chew not only apologized in court but also told the judge he wished to be taken back to the hospital to be treated for his hand injuries. He claims he has been unable to feed himself and accused jail staff of not helping to feed him either. But the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office was quick to counteract those claims.
