Doctors warn that the lack of awareness and delayed treatment often worsen the condition, leading to infertility, diabetes, and heart problems later in life.

Dr Shazia, a Gynaecologist at GMC Srinagar, explained that PCOS occurs when women’s ovaries produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones (androgens). “This hormonal imbalance interferes with the regular release of eggs during the menstrual cycle. As a result, multiple small cysts can form in the ovaries,” she said.
