LEWIS COUNTY, Wash. – The Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad has shared updates on the demolition of a historic railroad bridge destroyed in a suspected arson.

Crews and volunteer operators from Ascent Demolition completed the demolition work over the summer. The group noted that the site had become a nuisance attraction, drawing trespassers eager to see the damage.

The trestle bridge was completely destroyed by fire, as shown in video footage from the day of the incident. During the summer, donations and funds were raised to support the safe dismantling and disposal of the structure. Work is still ongoing, and donations are still being accepted.

Regarding the investigation into the fire, which is suspected to have been deliberately set, the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad said they are continuing
