An Australian man will face court after he was accused of groping a female passenger while she slept on an international flight .

The 71-year-old Melbourne man was flying home from Los Angeles on September 22 when he allegedly committed the indecent act.

The man was accused of touching the woman inappropriately and reaching inside her clothes while she slept, police said.

The female passenger told the cabin crew staff about the alleged assault, and she was moved to another seat for the remainder of the flight.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) were called to the airport gate and met the flight when it landed in Melbourne. Police interviewed witnesses and the 71-year-old.

He was charged with committing an act of indecency without consent. The maximum penalty for this offence is seven
