WHO IS THE NEW NSW POLICE COMMISSIONER?

* Mal Lanyon is a veteran of NSW Police, climbing the ranks for almost four decades

* In recent years he has headed up metropolitan policing and the statewide crime command, and led squads targeting high-risk domestic violence offenders

* He was made deputy police commissioner in 2019

* After missing out on the top job in 2021, Mr Lanyon led recovery efforts during the 2022 Northern Rivers floods and was then seconded to the Reconstruction Authority in 2024
