Ripped jeans are a tough sell—I think we’re all still a little traumatized from the early aughts penchant for drainpipe denim, with accordion-like rips from the knees to the hips, worn by both video vixens and indie sleaze devotees. Enter Jennifer Lawrence, with a decidedly more laidback take that imagines ripped jeans as an elevated basic.

The actor was photographed out and about in New York in a pair of low-rise, super light wash blue baggy jeans that featured one confident rip on the knee.
