Pulivendula YCP MLA, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court after Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu denied his party the official Opposition status. In his petition, Jagan challenged the ruling, arguing that neither the Constitution nor any law requires Opposition recognition to be based purely on the number of seats. He alleged that the Speaker’s decision was politically motivated and intended to suppress the voice of the Opposition.

Interestingly, when Jagan himself was the Chief Minister, he once remarked in the Assembly that if the TDP’s strength fell below 18 MLAs, they would automatically lose Opposition status.
