The People’s Development Party (PDP) has congratulated Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Peter Mutharika for his victory in the presidential election held on the 16th of this month.

In a statement signed by PDP president Kondwani Nankhumwa, the party described Mutharika’s re-election as a sign of the people’s continued trust in his leadership.

The PDP further pledged to work with the DPP both in Parliament and beyond, with the aim of advancing the interests of Malawians, particularly in the area of development.

Although the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is expected to officially announce the results later today, unofficial tallies indicate that Mutharika is leading with more than 50 percent of the total votes cast.
