A 20-year-old aspiring medical student from Maharashtra died by suicide, just hours before he was set to travel to Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur for his MBBS admission. The victim, Anurag Anil Borkar, had recently secured an All India NEET rank of 1475 and obtained a seat at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Gorakhpur under the OBC quota.

Anurag had taken the NEET examination twice. The first time, he got admission to an MBBS programme but chose to reappear for the exam to secure a better college, ultimately gaining entry into AIIMS Gorakhpur.

His family was preparing for his departure when the incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

According to police reports, Anurag's mother discovered her son hanging from a ceiling at 4 am when she went to wake him up.
