Although the name sounds endearing, the 'kissing bug' disease is nothing to fawn over. The disease is now being considered as an endemic classification, according to an August report from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Kissing bugs, also known as eastern-cone-nose bugs or triatomine, can bite faces and infect humans with Chagas disease . Chagas is a parasitic infection that can cause fever, aches and, in severe cases, heart and gastrointestinal failure.

"The problem with Chagas is that it's a chronic disease that takes years to develop, someone could die without knowing they have it," said Dr. Norman Beatty, a clinician at the University of Florida who contributed to the CDC research and report.
