The Election Commission of India Wednesday announced elections to fill five Rajya Sabha seats, four from Jammu and Kashmir and one from Punjab. As per the press note issued by the poll panel, the polling will be held on October 24, with the counting of votes scheduled for the same evening.
The four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir have remained vacant since February 2021, when the terms of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Nazir Ahmed Laway, Fayaz Ahmed Mir, and Shamsheer Singh Manhas expired. The elections will be held in three separate categories, as per the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act.
