Alcohol-specific deaths in Ayrshire and Arran did not change in 2024. ‌

Figures released by the National Records of Scotland revealed that there were 80 alcohol-specific deaths in the county last year - the same amount as 2023. ‌

Three years in the last five have seen the Ayrshire figure decrease since it peaked at 108 in 2019 and the figure remains at its lowest annual total since 2018. ‌

For the first time since 2019, the number of alcohol-specific deaths recorded across Scotland decreased.

Across Scotland, there were 1,185 alcohol-specific deaths in 2024, down by 92 (seven per cent) from the previous year and the lowest recorded since 2019.
