Lansing — Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini, the chief election official in Michigan's third largest county, will seek the Republican nomination for secretary of state next year.

Forlini, 63, of Harrison Township, announced his campaign Wednesday morning, six months before GOP delegates will meet to endorse a candidate for the position. Forlini said he felt a call to duty to run and hoped to "get things straightened out at the state level."

"Michigan citizens want to know their vote counts and that the process is run with transparency, credibility and accountability," Forlini said in a statement.
