For a good while during the summer, it seemed as though the Yankees might actually miss out on October baseball despite their strong start to the season. They ceded their grip on the AL East to the Blue Jays and played enough lackluster baseball to put themselves in the dregs of the Wild Card picture (or worse). They still might end up a Wild Card in 2025, but with a walk-off win on Tuesday, they’ve at least punched their playoff ticket and look like a lock to at least host home games in the first round.

However, because Toronto lost last night to Boston in conjunction with the Yankees’ win, this AL East race might have one more turn left before Game 162 on Sunday. The Jays have the tiebreaker, but they’re also now only one game ahead of New York, its smallest lead since July 3rd. Worse,
