A 'grimy' Birmingham takeaway has been shut down after an inspector discovered live cockroaches.

The city council carried out a routine visit to Ditta Fast Food on Walford Road, Sparkhill on Monday, September 22.

This morning, Wednesday, September 24, it sought a hygiene emergency prohibition order (HEPO) against operator Marhaba Kebabish to keep the business closed due to the conditions discovered.

Giving evidence at Birmingham Magistrates' Court environmental health officer Helen Delean said the 'main problem' emerged when she pulled a drinks chiller back.
