SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Springfield is marking National Preparedness Month this September with a series of initiatives aimed at encouraging residents to be ready for emergencies.

Mayor Domenic Sarno, alongside the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Department of Health & Human Services, is collaborating with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to promote preparedness among Springfield residents. The city has experienced significant disasters in the past, such as the 2011 EF-3 tornado and the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the importance of being prepared.

"Unfortunately, we have gone through our fair share of natural and man-made disasters," said Mayor Sarno. "Being prepared makes the difference in how we respond."
