FISHKILL – Three more employees at Fishkill Correctional Facility were taken by ambulance to a local hospital after they became ill Tuesday afternoon as a result of exposure to an unknown substance. The entire state prison system has been experiencing an alarming overdose rate among inmates and staff, and the state has not determined what the foreign substance is made of .
Tuesday’s incident in Fishkill once again required a response from a HAZMAT team to the prison.
Exposures to the unknown substance(s) have sent sworn and civilian staff and inmates to local hospitals with a variety of symptoms that have included fainting, nausea, vomiting, elevated blood pressure, and blurred vision. Several staffers needed to be administered Narcan to reverse the effects.
