The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has postponed the announcement of the presidential election results, which was initially scheduled for 2 PM today.
MEC spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa said the delay is due to the commission’s ongoing review of all election-related details and positions received.
“We will come back to announce when the results will be announced. I would also like to inform you that we are still within the dates given to us to announce the results,” Mwafulirwa said.
He added that the commission now expects to make the official announcement later this evening.
Meanwhile, outgoing President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has already conceded defeat and wished Peter Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), who is poised to win, well as the new President of Malawi.
