A man with a large knife was shot multiple times by Boston Police officers after he broke into a restaurant in Beacon Hill early Wednesday morning, according to the department.

Just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, officers went to 97 Mount Vernon St., the address for the restaurant 1928 Beacon Hill, for a report of a breaking and entering in progress, Superintendent Paul McLaughlin told reporters at the scene. There, police found a man in a rear alley armed with a large knife.

An officer deployed his taser, hitting the man. The taser did not subdue the man, and at that point, responding officers shot the man multiple times, McLaughlin said.
